He made his directorial debut with the family-drama Aanandham in 2001 and followed it up with the highly successful action films Run (2002),Ji , Sandakozhi (2005), Bheema (2008) and Paiyaa (2010). Shankar Shanmugham, commonly known as Shankar, is an Indian film director and producer who predominantly works in Tamil cinema. Recognized for directing high budget films, he is also a pioneer of vigilante movies in Tamil. He made his directional debut in Gentleman (1993) produced by K. T. Kunjumon, for which he was awarded the Filmfare Best Director Award and the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Director. He is the highest paid film-maker in India among his contemporaries.
Two of his films, Indian (1996) and Jeans (1998), were submitted by India for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. In 2007, he was awarded an Honorary doctorate by M. G. R. University.

Thyagu
Thyagu is a Tamil film actor who has appeared in comedy roles. He has played various kind of roles in the Tamil film industry. He is the grandson of violinist Kumbakonam Rajamanickam Pillai. Beginning as a protagonist, Thyagu played roles in Oru Thalai Ragam and Palaivana Solai, before playing antagonistic roles in the late 1980s and early 1990s. In the 2000s, he often formed an association with Vadivelu and would appear in a few scenes in films he had signed for, occasionally portraying comedy roles. His recent work includes roles in Kuselan as well as a politician in the Singam series.

A one-time associate of Santosh Sivan he made his directorial debut in 2003 with Kurumbu, which did not fare well at the box office. However, his subsequent films, Arinthum Ariyamalum (2005), Pattiyal (2006) and Billa (2007) went on to become highly successful ventures, turning him into a household name in Tamil Nadu.
