In 2011,she started her career in Tamil with the film Mappillai (2011),after which she appeared in several critically and commercially successful films like Engeyum Kaadhal (2011), Velayudham (2011) and Oru Kal Oru Kannadi (2012). These accomplishments have thus established her as a leading contemporary actress in Tamil Cinema. Recently she has acted in a Telugu film Oh My Friend.
Kavya was born and brought up in Mangalore, Karnataka. She is a Kannadiga and her parents are Manohar Shetty, an Economics Professor and Vasanthi Shetty, a retired bank employee. After doing her schooling in Mangalore, she graduated in Computer Science Engineering from N.M.A.M. Institute of Technology, Nitte in 2010.
